每逄農曆七月三十日地藏菩薩聖誕時，善信男女都會到寺院中供養香花，諷誦《地藏經》或稱念菩薩聖號，一方面期以地藏菩薩的大悲願力加持，以超薦祖先眷屬，孝親報恩，另一方面更期能效法地藏精神，發地藏之大願，行地藏之大孝，度脫一切有情。
從佛陀的教誨中，佛陀不僅教育弟子們要孝順當世父母，更要孝順七世父母，乃至一切眾生父母。
《地藏菩薩本願經》被稱為佛教的孝經，地藏菩薩以「地獄不空，誓不成佛，眾生度盡，方證菩提」的深弘誓願為緣，千百年來，為世人指出了成佛路，為佛法點出了長明燈，受到民間廣大的尊崇與信仰，被尊稱為「大願王」。
農曆七月是「孝道月」，禮誦《地藏菩薩本願經》，靠地藏菩薩的本願功德可以度我們七世的父母，並拔濟世間眾生的苦難，大家皆共成佛道。我們效法地藏菩薩的精神，念地藏菩薩，拜地藏菩薩，自己更應該要效法地藏菩薩的精神，做個地藏菩薩。
“The Sutra of the original vows of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva” is also known as the canon of filial piety in Buddhism. With his great vow- “If the Hell is not empty, I shall not attain Buddhahood”, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva has received great respect and trust from all. Not only did he point out to us a road to achieving Buddhahood, but he also lighted up our hope in Dharma. For these reasons, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva is known as “The King of Great Vows”.
The lunar month of July is known as the “Month of Filial Piety”, during which we read the “Sutra of the original vows of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva”. We wish that by relying on the merits of the great vows of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, our parents in the past lives could be liberated and that all could be relieved from miseries, hence achieving Buddhahood together. Indeed, we should follow the spirit of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, and recite and pay respects to him so that one day, we could become like Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva.
